Just like others I have also started using new Mozilla Firefox 3.6 Beta 2 version. Its fast and provides some new features. But one thing which I found annoying is, it opens new tab just after the current tab. Previous Firefox versions used to open new tab at last but this new beta version opens new tab near the current tab (parent tab).
Although its a good feature but I'm used to old functionality and decided to turn this feature off but I couldn't find any related option in Firefox preferences window.
After digging into "about:config" list, I found the solution which is given below:
1. Open firefox and type about:config in the addressbar and press Enter. It’ll confirm, click on I’ll be careful, I promise! button.
2. Now type related in the Filter box and look for following boolean key:
browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent
3. The entry "browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent" would be set to true. Double-click on it or right-click on it and select "Toggle". It'll set its value to false.
4. That's it. Now Firefox 3.6 beta will no longer open new tabs after current tab.

How arrogant is it that Mozilla changes something that's been one way for so long and doesn't even have an easily accessible option in the tabs section of the options dialogue? That section is mostly empty anyway.
It took them ages to respond to complaints about the 'awesome' bar and insert options to disable it without going to about:config.
For an organisation that seems to rely on grassroots support for its widespread useage, it seems ery dictatorial.

Thankyou for this post, I have just been setup on a new computer which apparently has the latest version of Firefox. The tab functionality has been driving me spare.
My initial internet searches suggested that a lot of people have been wanting the new functionality. But I too had gotten comfortable with the previous tab browing functionality and it remains to be my preference.

please help, i have an contra problem of that, before on my mozilla 3.6 i could open a new tab as my will. But coincidentially i click an option of "disabled" the new tab. I tried to find the "browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent" option, but hell i couldnt.
Please someone, help to get my new tabs work on again..

Same goes for microsoft, google, i.e. any software company that has become too large.
