Fantastic! thank you so much - I was tearing my hair out ouver the unexpected and confusing libraries feature. It is not at all useful, and very very annoying. now what else have you got here to make windows 7 run simpler......

@ Laurie,
The object of my criticism of this script is that it simply doesn't work as advertised, which you've just found out. While it removes the libraries from BEING SEEN in some places, it doesn't remove them from other places and it doesn't change how Windows 7 still uses the libraries by default.

I removed the script after realising that myself. Personally, I've learned to keep manually saving my work to where I want them, but I do appreciate how they appear much quicker in the appropriate libraries too. My point is that whether you like the libaries or not, it's still left up to the individual by Windows 7 to customise to your own tastes. You can point the libraries to specific files as needed manually, or delete them altogether manually, but they remain a part of the OS.

I'd rather not have had to deal with the libaries at all, but as you mentioned, there are times that they come in handy. :-)

Virtual folders can have uses, but the way in which these fake folders have been imposed on Windows users is shameful. More "dumbing down", and as always it results in inconvenience and reduced efficiency for all but the most stupid people.

Interesting to see that some people dismiss criticisms of libraries by accusing other people of being intolerant of opinions.

I just ran the registry edit to completely remove libraries, but they are still visible and working in the Save As window. Running Windows 7 Professional.

VG, I notice that your total removal script removes the following registry CLSID keys:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{031E4825-7B94-4dc3-B131-E946B44C8DD5}

But your restore script does not restore this values. Is there a reason behind your not restoring them?

{^_^}

I ran the reg script and it removes the icon from w explorer but the libraries still show up in open dialog boxes. Is there a way to really disable them?

Thanks

You might also need to do this for 32-bit apps on 64-bit machines in which case remove the namespaces from the key below

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\

Hi VG!

I've used this registry fix and it works like a charm on explorer. However, libraries still appear in some dialog boxes - particularly ones that prompt for you to choose a location if you want to save or load something.

Example: img683.imageshack.us/img683/3590/unled1zw.gif

How do I go abouts getting rid of this too?

And if it matters; I don't use links on my start menu that go to libraries.

Question, does the above REG files to remove W7 Folder Libraries work just on 32bit or is this designed to also work on 64bit? It seems I only got this to work on 32bit W7 SP1. Perhaps, on the 64bit OS there are additional keys to modify as well?

Is there any good program that lets end users edit the Windows Explorer right click content menu to rearrange the order of commands, the display of command icons and command items, as some are NOT wanted and others are missing options.

I be happy to share the method to show others if interested in how to print a list of files using the content menu and use Firefox to view and create MHT files. This comes in handy to share webpages as a single file and works great with Scrapbook too.
