will be watching this space for a fix as well, I tried the updated key on win7-x64-sp1 and it did not work for me either.

full row select is actually a good idea imo, I see where they were going with it but the real problem is it's buggy and inconsistent, that's really the only reason I want to get rid of it. if you notice the only time it works 100% is when you select/drag/drop on the icon/text itself, which kind of defeats the purpose. if you try to do file actions on empty space, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't, even while the full row is always highlighted.

WHAT? No option to customize such an essential Windows Explorer function?
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?

hello, like everyone here i can't stand full row select in details (or any) view.

the patch did not work for me either (windows 7 pro)

I gave up but I have one solution:

there is a skinny space to the left of the icon where you can safely position your mouse.

In fact this space amounts to a non-active column that runs along the entire left edge of the details view window. BUT it is only as wide as an icon. If it were just 2x wider it'd be easier to use for free space to place the mouse. As it is now you can barely fit the mouse in that gap and since it involves careful positioning this solution is not entirely "stress-free".

I wish i could drag an empty separator column over there, but the one on the right is fixed and separator columns is not one of the class of columns listed...

Microsoft seems to have disabled the workaround that worked in Vista. They seem intent on creating a child's interface and making it mandatory.

The above reg-patch does not work in Windows 7 final (retail).

It apparently worked in some beta versions, but MS in their infinite wisdom took away the above workaround. How do we go about hacking a way toward finding a new workaround?
