Karl, I have the same problem! Have you figured out how to fix it?

I’ve successfully disabled the aeropeek in the taskbar as long as I am in the administrator account, but I can’t disable it for the other user accounts… since to disable it I have to be logged on as administrator!… any advice how to get around that would be appreciated!!
When I go as another user into "System" etc, to disable it, a pop-up appears asking me to first enter the administrator password. When I do, it tells me aeropeek is already disabled, but it’s actually only disabled for the administrator account, and the user account I’m in still has aeropeek going strong. If I disable it via the start button and properties, it doesn’t disable for the taskbar in any accounts, just in the RHS corner!
Any help appreciated, I hate this function!!

^^ Are you using Windows Aero theme? Do you get glass effect in Explorer window? If yes, try to re-run Windows Experience Index using System Properties.

I enjoyed Areo Peek but then it stopped working. When I checked the Performance settings as described on this web page, I found that Enable Areo Peek is NOT in the list. It does show as disabled in the Taskbar properties window so it definitively was installed. Anyone any idea what happened and how I can restore Areo Peek? PS. I have Windows 7 Professional.

Thanks everyone for the above comments. Aeropeek should be called aeropuke! What a tiring useless piece of crap to have to wrestle with when your using your entire screen for work. I also disabled both options of aeropeek but was not able to remove the stupid thing. Have used the above example of what's ticked in performance options to get rid of the rotten thing. Thanks agin everyone.

Does anyone know how to disable the Close X in the top right of the Aero Peek window?
We have managed to disable the Close X in a Command Prompt for an application we use but the Aero Peek window allows you to click on the Close X and end tasks the program which is not good. This is the reason we disabled the Close X in a Command Prompt in the first place to prevent this from happening. Any ideas would be grately appreciated.

I found that neither cases worked, but it was with the "Enable Desktop Composition" disabled that finally removed the preview screen for tasks that you have your mouse hovered over.
