Yesterday we told you about how to disable Aero Shake in Windows 7:
How to Disable Aero Shake in Windows 7?
Now its turn of "Aero Peek" which has replaced the old "Show Desktop" button. It can be found as a small rectangle present at the end of Windows 7 taskbar. When you hover the mouse cursor over it, it allows you to peek behind all open windows by hiding all windows and showing only outlines of all windows.
You can follow this tutorial in case you want to disable "Aero Peek":
First Method: Using Taskbar Properties
The most easiest way to disable "Aero Peek" is using Taskbar Properties.
1. Right-click on Taskbar and select "Properties". Now uncheck the option "Use Aero Peek to preview the desktop".

2. Click on Apply button and it'll disable Aero Peek feature.
Second Method: Using System Properties
You can also disable "Aero Peek" from System Properties.
1. Right-click on Computer icon on Desktop and select Properties (or press WIN + Pause/Break keys). Now click on Advanced system settings link in left side pane (You can open it directly by giving sysdm.cpl command in RUN or start menu search box).

2. Now click on Settings button in Performance section:

3. Now uncheck "Enable Aero Peek" option.

4. Click on Apply button and it'll disable "Aero Peek" feature in Windows 7.

I wonder how to ENABLE it in Windows Server 2008 R2 RC... I managed to turn Aero on there, but Aero Peek doesn't work, and the checkbox in Taskbar Properties is unavailable :(

Oh, never mind. It was disabled in System Properties, I haven't noticed it first.

the first method does NOT disable alt+tab peek and taskbar thumbnail peek!
It just disables preview desktop!
the second method ONLY works for admins!

The weird this is, I have disabled AeroPeek in the system properties, as well as in the taskbar properties. And yet, it haunts me still.

I found that neither cases worked, but it was with the "Enable Desktop Composition" disabled that finally removed the preview screen for tasks that you have your mouse hovered over.

Does anyone know how to disable the Close X in the top right of the Aero Peek window?
We have managed to disable the Close X in a Command Prompt for an application we use but the Aero Peek window allows you to click on the Close X and end tasks the program which is not good. This is the reason we disabled the Close X in a Command Prompt in the first place to prevent this from happening. Any ideas would be grately appreciated.

just uncheck "Enable Desktop Composition" and aero peek should be disabled.

Thanks everyone for the above comments. Aeropeek should be called aeropuke! What a tiring useless piece of crap to have to wrestle with when your using your entire screen for work. I also disabled both options of aeropeek but was not able to remove the stupid thing. Have used the above example of what's ticked in performance options to get rid of the rotten thing. Thanks agin everyone.

Thank you! I finally got rid of those damned floating preview thingies.. and i agree audrey - aeropuke works for me, lol
