I just updated to iTunes 10.5, which may explain my problem. The Preferences menu has changed; the only import settings are under the "General" tab, for importing CD tracks, NOT (apparently) for audio FILES. I set it for AAC, but it stubbornly converts my .wav file to M4P, whatever that is. NOT USEFUL!

Hi, I've opened my iTunes, which I already had on my computer, but under 'edit' there was no 'preference' choice. The only 'preferences was directly under the word iTunes. I can't find the 'import' anywhere. Please help! I'm trying to get a .wav file into the right format to use as a ringtone...

^^ The best way would be: Change your folder view to Details and then sort the items by Date Modified. Now you can delete or move older files to other location and the newly created files would be AAC.

Or you can add a new column bit rate or other by right-click on the bar which shows details heading and select More option. Now you can easily detect which are AAC and which are MP3.

HI I have changed my music in my Itunes and it has taken 4 hrs and now that I have i have twice as many and if i couldn't remember which ones were the (AAC) files from the (MP3) files I would be screwed because I would have to waste another four hours just trying to figure out which ones were which and i really don't have the time for this this should have been included in the directions as a warning or caution (do this when you have PLENTY of Spare time.... if you have the answer to how i can change a setting on this please contact me ASAP if you would please.

Thank you.... I was most helpful and it Does work.
