You can type the above mentioned path in RUN or Windows Explorer addressbar and press Enter and it’ll open the message store folder.

Sometimes you might need to change the message store location to get some free space in your system drive. Or you might want to move the storage folder in case you want to format the system drive and don’t want to lose emails. It may also help if you want to create a portable version of Windows Live Mail email client.

  1. Hello,

Do you know, could that feasibly be used to share a storage folder on a network drive between two computers?

Or is there a database that controls the folders which would be affected?

  2. Wow. Thanks for much for this tip. I have a lot of old emails stored in my Sent Items folder on Hotmail, and I’m getting my new computer tomorrow with a solid state drive. So what I’ll do is place my emails on one of the spinny drives.

Just one question, though: when you make the change, it obviously doesn’t move all the emails in the preview folder into the new one, but does the new one collect all of your emails and place all of the folders in there (such as sent items, deleted items, or any other folders you create).

Also, say you have a lot of emails on the C drive, but you’d like to move them to the D drive. Could you change the store located and then move all the emails there? And would the emails still show up in your Windows Live Mail as sent items, deleted items, etc.

    Thanks again for this!

  3. ^^ Yes. If you move the files manually to new location, they should appear in Windows Live Mail.
