I'VE FOUND THE ANSWER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://forums.cnet.com/5208-4_102-0.html?threadID=41549

!!!!!!

I must have disabled a key feature (Allow web content to be added to desktop, under "Explorer" in Tweak UI) in Tweak UI that made Windows do this:

-Ignore all jpg files and prevent them from being selected
-think that something was messed up and, therefore, my Pictures folder was the only resort
-forget to disable the function included in the Common Task Pane
-Show only .bmp files

SORRY AND THANKS FOR YOUR CONCERN ANYWAYS.

Hey, Vishal,

I have another thing/comment to add to this conversation about the wallpapers...

I don't know WHAT's going on, but I only can see default pics and EVERY picture in my Pictures folder... yet after I extracted Win7 wallpapers to C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper, it doesn't recognize them...

Not even clicking the default ones works... doesn't show up in the list anyways, except Zapotec, which is always there and could work, but is ugly anyways.

I have to manually browse to the folder and use the prompt in the Left side Task Pane, but this is stupid.

PS, when I click "browse", it sends me to my Pictures folder, "F:\Pictures" (I changed the name so the start menu would be more realistic.)

Yesterday my pc crashed, again, and after I rebooted, i magically had all new themes on my home page that I was never able to set before, well i thought it was a fluke of course, but its still working and if u ask me, it looks like IE8. It has a index on the left side for the start menu.Well i downloaded IE8 once, didnt like it and went back to 7.And if i remember correctly, IE8 had the same feature. Now i'm trying to change it and it wont budge, which is why i'm going to try suggestion above. It would be nice to know whats going on. thanks

I'm having the same problem here. At some point in the past few months I get all the images in My Pictures listed along with all my wallpapers. I'm guessing it has something to do with SP3.

The only way I could solve this was to create a new folder within My Documents (named it "_PHOTOS") and move all my photos into it from My Pictures. After that, they no longer showed up in the Wallpapers list.

No, never used a picture from there. Have to be pretty noob to do that. Maybe SP3 screws these things up.

^^ It might happen as you applied a wallpaper stored in your "My Pictures" folder?

I have the same problem as user "David Galbraith". I just recently noticed that all of my photos in "My Pictures" show up in my wallpaper list. This is a huge pain in the a$$ as I have well over 50 GB of photos. I've used the registry entry, and it's still set as "windows\web\wallpaper", so that's all fine and dandy.

But does anyone know why all pictures in "My Pictures" have just recently started to pop up in Wallpaper? If it's happening to all of us within a recent time, it can't just be our individual PC: there's a bigger problem here.

Possible causes:

Virus: possibly, but my scanning indicates no.
Microsoft trying to screw all its XP users over and convert us to VISTA? Let's hope not, or else we're all effed.

Help me please!

Windows never included My Pictures in the Wallpaper list before, and since my pictures has always been the default pictures folder, I don't see how that has anythinhg to do with it. So far, no amount of googling has shown a solution other than the standard registry entry "windows\web\wallpaper", which has no effect on whether or not My Pictures is included in the wallpaper listing.

^^ Because "My Pictures" is set to default Pictures folder. If you don't want to show its content there, then you'll have to change the default Pictures folder to some other folder.
