Google has launched a free DNS service called "Google Public DNS" to make your browsing experience faster and secure.
What is DNS?
The DNS protocol is an important part of the web's infrastructure, serving as the Internet's "phone book". Every time you visit a website, your computer performs a DNS lookup. Complex pages often require multiple DNS lookups before they complete loading. As a result, the average Internet user performs hundreds of DNS lookups each day, that collectively can slow down his or her browsing experience.
What is "Google Public DNS"?
Google Public DNS is a recursive DNS resolver, similar to other publicly available services. It provides many benefits, including improved security, fast performance, and more valid results.
By using Google Public DNS you can:
- Speed up your browsing experience.
- Improve your security.
- Get the results you expect with absolutely no redirection.
How to Use "Google Public DNS"?
To try it out:
- Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers or
- Read configuration instructions.

This is scary... This thing works when I can't use OpenDNS for this dial-up modem.
Anyway, thanks for the information, VG.
