Google Android 8.0 “Oreo” Features List and System Images

Finally after lots of speculations Google has revealed the final name of it’s latest Android version 8.0. Google announced that Android 8.0 will be known as “Oreo“.

Yes it’s the second time when Google used an existing product name for its Android version. In past Google used “KitKat” (popular chocolate brand) name for Android version 4.4 and now the company has used “Oreo” (popular cookie brand) name for the latest Android version 8.0.

Google is promoting Android 8.0 “Oreo” as Open Wonder and a superhero which is smarter, faster, more powerful and sweeter than all previous Android versions.

Android 8.0 “Oreo” comes with many new and interesting features such as picture-in-picture, notification dots, autofill, Google Play Protect, new emojis, etc.

Following are the details of some new features present in Oreo:

Features List:

Picture-in-picture: This feature allows users to manage two tasks simultaneously on any size screen. Users will be able to see two apps at once on their mobile phone screen. One app window will be shown in background as a normal app and the other app window will be shown as an overlay. This feature will become very useful for video calls, YouTube videos, etc.

Notification dots: It’s a very handy feature. It shows a small dot on app icons which contain some notifications. Users can tap on the icon to see what’s new in the app and can take action on those notifications. Users can clear the notifications by swiping away using the dot icon. The notification dot will extract the color from the app icon.

Autofill: If you provide your permission, Autofill feature will remember your login passwords to let you sign into your apps with any need of entering your credentials again. Apps using form data and password managers will be able to utilize Autofill feature.

Google Play Protect: Android Oreo comes with Google Play Protect built-in which is a security system to keep your device, your data and your apps safe and secure.

Longer battery backup: Oreo minimizes unintentional overuse of battery from apps in background by changing the way apps run in background. It also comes with new limits on Wi-Fi scans and background location scans which helps in keeping your device battery going longer. These limits also help in improving overall system performance.

Faster boot speed: Oreo provides faster boot speed when your device powering up. In many devices, you might notice up to 2x faster boot time.

Android instant apps: Oreo allows users to jump directly into new apps from the browser without any need of installation.

Notification snoozing: Users will be able to hide notifications for a period of time just like Inbox snoozing.

New emojis: Oreo comes with lots of fully redesigned emojis including over 60 new emojis.

Availability:

Now the question comes when Android 8.0 “Oreo” will become available? Google has released the source code to Android Open Source Project (AOSP) for public. Oreo builds for Pixel and Nexus devices have entered carrier testing and will start rolling out very soon.

Other mobile manufacturer companies such as Nokia, Huawei, HTC, LG, Samsung, Motorola, Sony, etc may release the Android 8.0 firmware for their devices by the end of this year. Since many companies use their customized UI on their devices instead of stock Android, it may take some time for them in releasing the new Oreo firmware.

If you were enrolled in the Android Beta program, your device will receive the update to the final version of Oreo immediately.

If you have supported device, you can manually download and flash the Oreo version. Google has released the system images of Android 8.0 “Oreo” at following link:
