Download link's now active but you have to provide credit card information before you're allowed to download it.

I don't much like the idea of having to provide credit card information for a free download, even if it's just for verification purposes.

I can see one reason why they're doing this too: why overhaul your online store's payment system for a free download?

That said, weighing the cost of providing my credit card info -- which can be hacked (and if you don't believe it can be, I have a bridge to sell you) -- against the benefit of having a paid firewall when perfectly good alternatives like COMODO are available makes me pass on this one.

Also, I can foresee receiving an e-mail from Checkpoint a year from now with a special offer to renew my license (possibly at a special price) with my credit card information already handy.

Goes to show that nothing's truly free anymore.

Hmmz... 13th october almost 2 PM afternoon (Brussels/Paris/Amsterdam timezone) and still nothing has changed at their website. I read a blog article about the link between this giveaway action and Microsoft's Patch Tuesday, they speak of starting the offer at 6 a.m. PDT.... so because ZoneAlarm is a Californian US company, I guess it's still waiting until 3 or even 4 PM afternoon here (9 hours time difference plus daylight savings).... and I bet at 4.01 PM overhere their website down or overloaded.

These things are making me nervous, especially when there's not enough clarity given to everyone.

BTW: Avira sucks! Especially their free Antivir version: slow updates and nag screens harassing you all the time to "encourage" you to buy their paid solutions. A little psychology would reveal that harassing people with big nag-screens is NOT the proper way to attract customers, but instead it's the best way to scare them off, uninstalling this free sh*t. Not quite friendly Germans, those Avira-dudes... I'm glad there's already a hack known to overcome these annoying troubles, I'll check it out anyway.

avast! is an antivirus/antimalware solution, not a firewall! I'm using it together with pc tools firewall plus 6.0 and I can't complain.

Nevertheless, ZoneAlarm Pro is quite a lot better than pc tools firewall, but beware! Totally incompatible with avast! I've tried it many times, since early 2006, and still the problem isn't solved. So if you like a total system crash once in a while, install them both: avast! and zoneAlarm :(

Therefore I need some advice, if anyone could give me, or Vishal himself, who's much better qualified than I am. What other antivirus solution to choose while using ZoneAlarm pro? As light as possible, for I have still a rather old-fashion XP system, not capable to run resource-hogging security software... plz?

BTW: 13th october 24h free ZoneAlarm giveaway in what timezone? Also GMT+1 ?

I've used Zone Alarm Pro for about 6 months. During that time, it slowed down my system substantially. I don't know why it did that.

I'm still getting one of these keys, though. :)
