Get Windows 7 Volume Control Box in Windows XP

Windows 7 contains a redesigned Volume Control window which shows better details and graphics for device volumes. Now you can get a similar window in your XP. Thanks to fediaFedia for creating this mod.

Download Windows 7 Volume Control for XP

After downloading the ZIP file, extract it and you’ll get an EXE file “sndvol32.exe“. Now you just need to replace existing “sndvol32.exe” file present in “%windir%\System32” folder (here %windir% represents “Windows” folder present in the system drive where Windows is installed in your system) with this new one.

Make sure you have run WFP Patcher in Windows. WFP Patcher disables WFP (Windows File Protection) service which protects editing/replacing of system files and you’ll not be able to replace the file until you disable it using WFP patcher.

If you don’t want to disable WFP, you can still replace the file using Replacer.

  1. Win7 X64
In XP I could check “Mute” –> Decrease or increase the volume –> Release the “Mute”.
    Now In 7 I can’t.
After “Mute” when I Lower the volume, It returns to play music.
How can I fix it to have it like in XP?

  2. I’m using SevenVG RTM theme and when I installed this sndvol32 stuff, the colour of the bitmap (the sndvol32 BG) and the volume slider was so different in colour shade. Any solutions for this?

  3. ^^ You can open the above app’s EXE file in Resource Hacker and replace the required image resources with your desired colored images.

  4. You are too smart Vishal

Everything’s working right but what about Google Chrome’s menu bar transparency -_-

  5. I would like to have the inverse: Get the windows XP volume controls in Windows 7. Because they are independent and let me regulate every one like I need.
