Well,I have just seen my friends computer,it has Windows Vista on it. He has got Windows Movie Maker 6 but my apologies, it is not an earlier version of Windows Live Move Maker. The version I had on my computer before I uninstalled it WAS actually Windows Live Movie Maker that came with Windows Live Essentials when I bought my laptop. But I did not know that at the time.

But just to let you know,Windows Movie Maker 6 is similar to both 2.1 and 2.6. And I have just installed Windows Movie Maker 6,which is the Windows Vista Movie Maker on my Windows 7. And Windows Movie Maker 6 works on Windows 7 and runs alongside 2.6 version. And Windows Movie Maker 6 has a few extra features. So Windows 7 users should get both Windows Movie Maker 6 and 2.6,as both versions work on Windows 7. Just to let you know. Andrea Borman.

I first found out about Windows Movie Maker when I got my Windows XP Netbook two months ago.Which has Windows Movie Maker 2.1. And I was so impressed with it. I then installed Windows Movie Maker 2.6 on my other 3 Windows 7 Netbooks. (Windows Movie Maker 2.1 will not install on Windows Vista or Windows 7.) Windows Movie Maker 2.6 for Vista is exactly the same as 2.1.The only feature that it does not have is the record from your webcam. But you use MyCam or another desktop program for that. But apart from that everything else in 2.6 is exactly the same as 2.1. In fact both are identical to one another. And both versions are great for creating subtitles and converting avi files to WMV format. Which I can then upload my videos to You Tube.

I did try Movie Maker 6 for Windows Vista on Windows 7 which runs alongside 2.6 but I do not like that as it is an earlier version of Windows Live Movie Maker. Which is not the same as the original Movie Make Maker.

I think that Windows Movie Maker 2.6 should be installed on all Windows 7 computers instead of the current Windows Live Movie maker. As it is the same as the Windows XP version and more user friendly and popular than Windows Live Movie Movie. Which is not very user friendly at all. The original Windows Movie Maker works great on both Windows XP(2.1 version) and Windows 7(2.6.) And more Windows 7 users should have Windows Movie Maker 2.6. Andrea Borman.

I completely agree with your comparison between 2.6 and the new one. I've used 2.6 quite a bit in the past, but just downloaded the live essentials one and HATE it. No timeline?? How on earth do you create a video without a freaking timeline...?

I'm afraid Microsoft is falling into the Apple trap - oversimplifying everything to the point that it looks pretty but is completely dysfunctional if you want to do anything but the very basics...
