  5. Hey VG,

I am trying to map the “my documents” (eg. “documents”) to D:\ under Vista.
(I have a bunch of folders here that I want to access, so I would prefer not to create an additional folder level to map it to, say, D:\Docs).

It all works fine with one exception: If I hit Save As in Microsoft Office 2003, and on the left hand side of the screen I click on “My Documents”, I get a message saying that the folder does not exist.

how do I fix this? I had it mapped like this under XP and had no problems. Vista seems to only work if I give it a folder under D, but not just D:\

    Do you have any suggestions?

  6. Hi

Pls tell me the exact steps, which you used to redirect My Documents to D:\ drive, then I’ll be able to solve your problem.

    Did you try following key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders

  7. Hello

    basically, I right-clicked on Documents that comes up in the start menu folder;
in properties - location I changed the path to D:\.

I checked the registry entry that you mention, the Personal key points to D:\
(same as my other machine that runs XP).

But under XP Office 2003 recognizes d: as “My documents”, while the same office 2003 under Vista doesn’t.

  8. Pls check the same in all following keys:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\Shell Folders
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\Shell Folders
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\User Shell Folders
    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders

  9. Hi Vishal,

=> Personal is set to D:\

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders
=> Personal is set to D:\

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\Shell Folders
=> Personal was set to C:\Users\myname\Documents
    I changed it to D:\

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\explorer\User Shell Folders
=> Does not have a Personal key - should I create one?

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Explorer\User Shell Folders
=> Personals was set to %userprofile%\Documents
    I changed it to D:\

But Word is still complaining :(
