There's a way to add 1024 x 768 :

1. Run the REGEDIT (you know how to do it)
2. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E 968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}000
3. Change Display1_DownScalingSupported from 0 to 1
4. If there is no 0001 or 0002, you can make it by right click and new key, give the new key's name with 0001 or 0002
5. In the new key, make a new dword, and give it name : Display1_DownScalingSupported
6. Change the dword value too, from 0 to 1
7.Reboot your computer and you will get it

Note : mine is acer, so never tried another brand.

Vg i can make a new boot screeen for windows 7 like two apple coming and blasting ...and forms a apples logo...

Even im having this same problem im using Win 7 and ive tried Windows 7 boot animation changer after i changed it didnt work and i need back my default boot animation ive tried your given command but it shows "ACCESS DENIED" .Plz solve this problem .asap[

Vishal you should add to the article this information:

The new Windows 7 boot screen requires at least 1024 * 768 resolution. On monitors on which the native resolution is smaller than this, Microsoft uses the Windows Vista boot screen.

How to reverse it?
I mean, set Vista boot on windows 7
With this Vista BootScreen my system starts up much faster
