@Ey Yeah, I'd say your volume up key on the keyboard is stuck. Try pressing it repeatedly to 'unstuck' it.

^^ As I earlier said, you can reduce volume of system sounds by clicking on speak icon in system tray and then click on "Mixer".

Thanks, I don't mind the error sounds so much - they might be legitimate sometimes, but I just wish windows wouldn't reduce my other sounds while playing an error sound.

...

Any thoughts?

^^ You can reduce system sound volume using the speaker icon in system tray or just disable the error sound using "Sound" applet in Control panel.

This is a very annoying feature. Thanks for highlighting it.

Is there also a similiar feature to reduce volume during errors? Every now and then Windows loses touch with some of my USB devices (it's a USB hub with a plethora of devices), it then plays an error sound, and more annoyingly reduces the volume of my Mp3 playbacks.

It happens so frequently, it's quite annoying. I just want it to keep the mp3 playback at normal levels. ...

Anyway, is this a bug or a feature?

This is a good feature apply in windows 7 to automatically reduce the system volume so there is no need to reduce it manually i am just waiting for windows 7 to release.
