But on Vista your patch is only half of the work.

You must additionally delete this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.ico\UserChoice

hiya!

my windows 7 started to show its default icons in my explorer, basicly in archives, but not all of them, i really have no idea what causes this problem but it's very annoying, i ran this reg file and then is restarted the system but default icons was there still, so i changed them back to custom icon, so lets see if it helps...

I was really feeling irritated after using all tools at my disposal including TweakUI. Your registry repair solved it without any reboot in WinXp.

Is there a way to force .ani files to display themselves in the icon?
My animated cursors are showing as the program icon I set to open them.
