Favorite Links Area in Browse Dialog Box Bug in Windows Vista

1. Open RUN dialog box.

2. Click on "Browse" button.

3. Now right-click on any folder in "Favorite Links" area present in left side pane and select "Rename" and get ready to see the BUG.

As you can see in screenshot, as soon as we click on "Rename" option, the look of dialog box becomes completely strange. The REFRESH, SEARCH and the Little DOWN arrow button in the toolbar become distorted. They look like 256 color images. The text color in the addressbar becomes so light that its too hard to read it. Also the text in "Favorite Links" area becomes too ugly.

PS: You can try it with any other application. You have to just use "Open, Save or Browse" dialog box to re-create this BUG. You can use Notepad and click on Save, Save as, New or Open options.

  • Nice find. I noticed that this feature is broken even when an application (like Photoshop) uses a custom open dialog.

  • Are you sure this is a bug? It's just graying it out to so a person does not accidentally click there when he is renaming... I do not understand how this is a bug. As soon as you rename the folder, it goes back to normal. Now, if it remained like this after clicking OK in the rename dialog box, than that's a bug.

^^ There is no problem in grayed out items but the thing is the look. Look carefully at grayed out items, they look so much ugly. The white font doesn't show properly in addressbar also the images like Refresh button, Search icon looks blurred. Thats the main bug or goof-up.
