Windows Vista comes in 4 editions which can be found here. But the new Aero theme is not provided in "Windows Vista Home Basic Edition", all other editions provide this new cool interface.
But there is a registry trick to enable the Aero interface in Vista Home Basic edition as well:
1. Open regedit and goto:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM
2. In right-side pane change value of "Composition" to 1 and "CompositionPolicy" to 2.
3. Restart your system and you'll be able to select the Aero interface from Desktop Properties.
If you want a ready-made code for doing this, then download following ZIP file, extract it, run the extracted .REG file and accept the confirmation:
NOTE: Your system must meet the minimum requirements to use Aero interface in Vista.

Theres no way we can have the real aero on home basic. We only can have the Windows Vista Standard, is the only theme close to the Aero, but without the glass view, the previews and the 3d flip
