Uninstall Built-in Apps in Windows 10 and 8/8.1 Using CCleaner

Windows 10 comes with many default built-in modern apps to help users such as Calendar, Mail, Music, Movies, News, Weather, Photos, etc. Although providing these modern apps bundled with Windows 10 was a good idea but some people might not need them. For example, if you already use a 3rd party email client software such as Windows Live Mail or Thunderbird, you may not want to use the default Mail app of Windows 10. In such situations, people may want to uninstall these bundled apps in Windows 10 to gain free space as well as to improve system performance.

Unfortunately Microsoft didn’t provide any direct option to remove these built-in apps. You can’t uninstall any these bundled apps in Windows 10. But fortunately, there are some advanced methods to get rid of these built-in apps which have been mentioned in following tutorial:

The above mentioned tutorial takes help of a built-in program called PowerShell to uninstall any or all modern apps in Windows 10. But this requires a few commands to execute in PowerShell program along with some expertise.

You must be knowing about the popular CCleaner program which is a free software to clean temporary files and improve system performance in Windows, Mac and Android operating systems. So you just need to install CCleaner software and then you can uninstall any desired built-in app in Windows 10 or Windows 8/8.1 within 2 or 3 mouse clicks.

If you are ready to use CCleaner program to uninstall built-in apps in Windows, check out following simple steps:

  1. The question I ask myself with this possibility that offer CCleaner is: is that folders located in C:\Users\UserName\Local\Packages (where user data are stored) are deleted ? Because everyone talks about the Apps, but it’s in this folder that Apps take more disk space, and not in C:\Programs\WindowsApps where they are installed…

  2. I just tested and verdict: all files of an App (there are multiple folders for a single App in C:\Programs\WindowsApps) are not deleted. It is a wrong uninstallation or an incomplete uninstallation. I tested on Solitaire and 3D Builder and a single case (of 4) is removed.

  3. Dear VG

    Hello again

Cleaning up with CCleaner works like magic
Now I got rid of all the “bloatware” of win10
I allready downloaded the latest version, but I didn’t know this option to get rid of the useless apps
    Thank you so much

  4. Dear VG

    Back again

Just noticed that after the update to 10576 most of the apps were reinstalled
It would be nice if Microsoft remembers my profile and not reinstall those apps again
So now I get rid of them once more again

  5. @VG

I do not understand why you put me this link^^. It has nothing to do with what I said.

Maybe it will be improved, but for now, it uninstall (almost) nothing (just the last version of folders of the App, from what Ive seen). It is only in appearance that it is uninstalled, if you look deep, it is not at all.

Obviously nobody see it because the WindowsApps folder is a hidden/protected folder and needs (to know) to take control to see what happens in (or what is not happening in this case)

  6. 3 questions for Windows 10 Enterprise (x64):

1)Does CCleaner uninstall these apps for All Users or just the Current User?

    2) If you use Powershell instead of CCleaner to uninstall for All Users, are the Apps still replaced by the next build that comes down from Windows Updates?

    3) Is there a permanent way to keep these Apps off of my systems for All Users?

  7. Is this method safe? Because in previous guide (https://www.askvg.com/tip-how-to-uninstall-modern-apps-in-windows-10/) you mentioned that “We’ll not advise you to uninstall all built-in apps using these commands as it may break some functionality of Windows 10 OS. Also you may not be able to restore all modern apps in future.” Between this method, this one (https://www.askvg.com/guide-how-to-remove-all-built-in-apps-in-windows-10/), and this one (https://www.askvg.com/tip-how-to-uninstall-modern-apps-in-windows-10/) which one is the safest method to do? Thank you.

  8. ^^ If you remove selected apps, its safe. Dont remove Windows Store app otherwise you’ll not be able to install new apps from Store.
