Windows Live Essentials is very good and have beautiful interface.
I can found alternative for almost all of the programs in the Essential package.
Windows Live Messenger = Pingin, Trillian (proprietary), Meebo, Miranda Messenger, aMSN, Digsby, etc.
Windows Live Mail = Thunderbird, Microsoft Office Outlook (commercial), etc.
Windows Live Photo Gallery = Google Picasa, XnView (free for personal use), etc.
Windows Live Movie Maker = Avidemux, Lightworks, AviSynth (controlled entirely by scripting (without a GUI)), etc.
Windows Live Family Safety = K9 Web Protection (free for home use), etc.
Windows Live Writer = Zoundry Raven, ScribeFire (browser based), BlogJet, Qumana, Thingamablog, etc
Windows Live Mesh = LogMeIn (service-based remote connectivity, free with limited functionality), etc.
Bing Bar = Google Toolbar (?)
All except: Windows Live Messenger Companion, Windows Live Sign-in Assistant, Microsoft Outlook Hotmail Connector, Microsoft Silverlight.

For "Windows Live Mesh", I think only "LogMeIn" able to be the alternative. Other file synchronization software can't do the remote desktop.

OFF-TOPIC: HELP!
At college, I can't connect to the wireless network connection provided by college while others can.
I can access other Internet which is outside college (e.g. Starbucks, Subway, etc.).
I am thinking that they share the Wi-Fi Internet connection to me so that I can online. I searched and found this:
Share an Internet Connection Between Wireless Machines with an Ad Hoc Network in Windows 7
howto/21943/share-an-internet-connection-between-wireless-machines-with-an-ad-hoc-network-in-windows-7/
I didn't try it yet but I want to make sure that it works at my case. (I don't want to trouble my friends)
My friends said they need to connect to college's provided Wi-Fi Internet connection.
At Network Connections (input at your text-field "Network Connections" and hit enter) will get a extra "Wireless Network Connection 2".
Right click it and select "Properties". Select "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" and click "Properties".
Input given IP address (XXX.XXX.XX.XXX) (last four digits = pick 100 till 200), Subnet mask, Default gateway.
Then, input given "Preferred DNS server" and "Alternate DNS server".
Can I use their share Internet connection if they successfully access Internet with these above steps?
VG
^^ I'm not sure. You'll need to try it yourself.

Thanks for reply.
Sorry that my question seems complicated and lengthly.
VG
