Download Windows 8 Lock Screen Style Metro Clock Screensaver

We all know that Windows 8 testing builds show date, time and day name at login screen. Recently we covered a free tool which can show date and time at Windows 7 login screen:

Get Windows 8 Like Date and Time Display on Windows 7 Login Screen

Today we are going to share a screensaver for Windows 7 and earlier which has been created by AskVG’s DA group member “dejco” to provide the same Windows 8 Metro logon look.

You just need to download the RAR file, extract it using WinRAR or 7-Zip and then copy MetroClock folder and MetroClock.scr file to “%windir%\System32” (i.e. C:\Windows\System32) folder. After that apply the new MetroClock screensaver using Desktop Properties.

Now as soon as the screensaver is activated at login screen, it shows Windows 8 look-like metro logon with clock showing current date and time:

  1. Hay i have downloaded and followed the instructions and it works, but i cant find the Metro.reg file hence i cant set it to default, please help

  2. ^^ Thanks for the heads up. A new version has been released which doesnt require running REG file thats why you didnt find any REG file in downloaded RAR file. Please read the instructions again, I have updated them. 🙂

  3. I don’t know why, but I can’t get settings to popup when I’m in the screensaver selection screen (both settings and preview don’t have any response) on Win7 64bit. No errors or anything…I’ve tried on 32bit and it works perfectly.

  4. Why does it say:
    “Error!
Application failed to initialize properly. Click on OK to terminate the application.”?

I’m using Windows XP SP3 by the way.

  5. ^^ Yes. The download link will download version 3 which is the latest version. I think simply deleting the screensaver file will remove it from your system.

  6. BTW, I tried installing Metro Clock on Windows 8 (Yes, I understand it’s for Win7, but I’d like to use it on Win8).

It almost works… however only without images. It blows up after selecting an image or folder and clicking Save or Exit.

Can it be tweaked to work on Win8?

  7. Work perfectly. For Windows 7 64 bit you need to copy MetroClock folder and MetroClock.scr file to “C:\Windows\SysWOW64\” then it will work!!! Большое спасибо!!!

  8. It isn’t working for me for some reason. is it only supposed to work at the login screen?

  9. The old press Control+Alt+Delete to log on dialog box is in Windows NT. Versions 3.1,3.5,3.51,4.0 and 5.0 support it.

  10. Sir, I’m running on MS Win 7 x86 SP1. This screen saver does not works on my PC. When it is enabled at the logon screen it shows whatever is the current wallpaper. But when I see its preview it seems to be finest.
