Recently I released "SevenVG R2" theme for Windows XP which can bring the same Windows 7 look to your Windows XP. You can download the theme from following link:

A few people requested for a new Shellstyle (Common Tasks) for Windows XP which should look like the new light blue sidebar present in Windows 7 latest beta builds. So today I decided to create a similar shellstyle for XP:

You can download it using following link:

After downloading the ZIP file, extract it and you'll get a "shellstyle.dll" file. Now you'll need to replace the existing "shellstyle.dll" file present in any of the following folders based upon which sub-style you are using in your system:

%windir%\Resources\Themes\SevenVG R2\Shell\NormalColor
%windir%\Resources\Themes\SevenVG R2\Shell\Aero48
%windir%\Resources\Themes\SevenVG R2\Shell\Bottom32
%windir%\Resources\Themes\SevenVG R2\Shell\Bottom48

Here "%windir%" means "Windows" directory present in your system drive where Windows XP is installed.

Once you replace the file, it'll change the Explorer shellstyle immediately. Just refresh the folder or navigate to any other folder to take affect.

PS: If you face problem while replacing the file, then do any of following:

  • Rename existing "shellstyle.dll" file to some other name and then copy this new DLL file. Restart or log off the system and Windows will start using this new shellstyle.
  • Or first apply default Luna theme from Desktop Properties and then replace the shellstyle.dll file. Now it'll work and then re-apply SevenVG theme.
