What’s New in Windows 7: A Small Review with Screenshots

This new theme "SevenVG" has been created for Windows XP users and it'll provide same Windows 7 look-n-feel in XP.

"SevenVG" is the first Windows 7 look-a-like theme for Windows XP and almost all other themes available on net are based on it.

This theme contains 4 sub-styles:

  • Aero32 (for 32x icon size)
  • Aero48 (for 48x icon size)
  • Bottom32 (for 32x icon size)
  • Bottom48 (for 48x icon size)

Aero32 and Aero48 contain left common tasks in Explorer. On the other hand, Bottom32 and Bottom48 contain bottom common tasks. So feel free to use whichever do you want.

HOW TO USE:

1. Download the file and extract its content. You'll get a folder "SevenVG Theme for Windows XP by Vishal Gupta".

2. In this folder, you'll get 3 more folders:

=> Fonts (This folder contains Segoe UI fonts required for the theme. Run Fonts.exe file to install them.)

=> Styler Toolbar (This folder contains Styler setup and SevenVG styler toolbar skin. It'll provide Windows 7 look-a-like toolbar and commandbar in Explorer.)

=> Theme (This folder contains the main theme. Run Theme.exe file to install it.)

3. Apply the theme using Desktop Properties and you have done.

4. Also make sure you have patched the "uxtheme.dll" file to allow 3rd party visual styles, if its not patched, then download and run the UXtheme Patcher from here:

For XP SP3 Users - Download UXTheme Patcher

For XP SP2 Users - Download UXTheme Patcher

5. To get iconized taskbar buttons, please follow this tutorial.

^^ As I earlier said, I'm going to update it regularly. So please don't release your customized versions of this theme anywhere else. If you want, you can share it with me and I can create a new topic and announce it on AskVG. In that way, you can share your VS with all people. :)

  • Really good theme.Liked it well.

  • thanks alot

  • Vishal, totally brilliant theme man! I love this new look and feel. However,

I did have a tiny problem with the segoe ui font. I'm running Windows XP SP2 home, and for some reason the fonts just didn't install properly, so there was no text anywhere! but, i found this link:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?aimabbtblla

extracted the 4 fonts into c:\windows\fonts, renamed them according to the way this theme originally used, and Voila!!

    Thanks again!!!

  • install everything...

then uninstall the styler.. it will work fine without the icon

  • cool man, thanks a lot

  • Hey Vishal,

I have a tip for you. I recently ]discovered FadeBar. This little tool makes your taskbar transparent. WAIT! not what you think.. "there are many 'vista-wannabe' tools to do that". Well, this is not the case. With Fadebar, the taskbar is sensitive for mouse hover. If you move the mouse over the taskbar, it turns visible again.
With this, there are completely new things possible. Such as 100% transparent taskbar while the buttons are visible. Or the other way around.

The reason I tell you this: with your theme, somehow the taskbar doesn't get transparent when I use Fadebar. It turns into ugly light/grey/blue. I hope you can change this in your theme. The best thing would be if you would add the attribute for Fadebar, giving you the extra Fadebar options.

  • Hey Vishal, have you seen Fadebar? Unfortunately, of all the themes I have used, only yours doesn't work correctly, the taskbar doesnt get transparent, instead it turns grey.

Fadebar isn't trying to make your XP look like Vista, please check it out. It makes your taskbar sensitive for mouse hover. If you move over it, it will loose transparency! It's really nice.

Plus this gives you 2 totally new styles: imagine the taskbar being 90 or 100% transparent while everything on it (buttons) is visible.

Please check out what the author has written. If you are not interested in adding the attribute for Fadebar to your theme, I hope you at least do something about the grey color instead of transparent. Or give me a tip on how to work it out :)

But I think you will like Fadebar ;)

  • btw is it possible to get Common Tasks on top instead of left/bottom? I am so used to top..

  • Sorry for all these posts! It seems the newly released version of Fadebar automatically chooses the transparancy color, it works with your theme :)
You could edit your theme to work with Fadebar like the author describes. But for me it's already very cool now :)
