UPDATE: People who want to use a portable version of Resource Hacker, just install it using the setup file give below and after installation, copy "Resource Hacker" folder from "C:\Program Files" folder to any other desired location like another drive, USB stick, etc and you are ready to enjoy the portable version. Thanks to our reader "Dustin" for this tip...
"Resource Hacker" is one of our favorite software which is used to edit various system files like dll, exe, cpl, etc. Most of the times its used to modify Windows look, for example you can change look of dialog boxes, menus, etc.
We have posted a detailed tutorial about resource Hacker at following link:
Now the good news is, our friend "Angus Johnson" has released an updated version of Resource Hacker which now supports 64-bit files as well as PNG images and icons.
That's a major update and every Resource Hacker user should download the new version 3.6.0
Changes List:
- Now decompiles/compiles 64-bit executables
- Added PNG image support
- Added PNG icons support

As you can see in above screenshot, the older version can't show PNG files but the new version can show PNGs without any problem.
You can download the new version using following link:

This means we may be able to finally get a fully accurate OS X or Linux login screen without a third party utility. Woot woot!

Also, there is an ini folder in the Resource Hacker directory. This means that we should be able to copy and paste the entire Resource Hacker folder anywhere we want and it should work. Therefore it's portable. If you can confirm this VG, please add directions to this article for those who want to use it as a portable tool. Thanks!
Dustin
Hey VG, I confirmed that the Resource Hacker folder can be copied and pasted where ever. It is fully portable once installed. I tried it from a flash drive and I also copied it over to my 64 bit Vista partition. Both worked.

Resource Hacker FX: the improved Resource Hacker
rammichael.com/resource-hacker-fx
First of all, download and install the original Resource Hacker v3.6.0.92
Then, download the patcher and copy to the path of original Resource Hacker's installation.
Note: The default path is "%ProgramFiles%\Resource Hacker" (without quotes). For 64-bit editions of Windows, it is "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Resource Hacker" (without quotes).
After that, simply run the patcher and it'll create "ResHackerFX.exe". Done!
