Resource Hacker 5.2.7: Download Free Resource Editor for Windows

Resource Hacker” is one of our favorite Windows software which is used to edit various system files such as dll, exe, cpl, etc. Most of the times it’s used to modify Windows look-n-feel, for example you can change look of various dialog boxes, menus, etc.

Resource Hacker is actually a free resource editing program which can be used to compile and decompile resources in Windows applications.

Now some good news! Our friend “Angus Johnson” who is the developer of this tool, has released an updated stable version 5.2.7 of Resource Hacker which comes with some improvements and changes. Every Resource Hacker user should download and install the new version.

NOTE: People who want to create and use a portable version of Resource Hacker, just install it using the setup file and after installation, copy “Resource Hacker” folder from “C:\Program Files” folder to any other desired location like another drive, USB stick, etc and then run the EXE file from there. You are ready to enjoy the portable version.

    All this time on the internet (before the browser, using BBS Direct) and I find your web site, which has some very good info and “hacks”! Good Job!
    Just moved to Win 8 and I will find it but, When you are logged in as Administrator, Internet Explorer v.11 will not let Google, Bing and other Tool Bars run below the menu bar?
    Maybe you have an answer, I always log-in Administrator. And for anyone that’s want to get rid of the “Metro Style” Windows 8, I’m using Start8 by Stardock, $5.00 US So far, Very Nice and it makes the desktop and everything else look and work like Windows 7, Plus you still have the corners to use Thanks

  4. HOW CAN I MODIFY THE RAM VALUE DISPLAYED IN SYSTEM PROPERTIES IN WINDOWS 7. THIS WAS EASILY DOABLE IN XP VIA REGISTRY, WHAT CAN I DO TO ACHIEVE SAME IN WINDOWS 7.

  7. Hi i’m trying to change the description of an .exe file. The file is located in: symantec.com/connect/downloads/readynosleepexe-prevents-screensaver-and-pc-locking

    called: NoSleep.exe

    I want to remove the description where it says it is there to keep the computer from falling asleep. Can you please help me?

    I change shell32.DLL using resource hacker but when I save it this create new file shell32(original).DLL which is not be Deleted. and dll file not changed.

  10. It‘s great to finally see an update on this good ol‘ app! I wonder whether the problem with some modified files, like shell32.dll with changed icons (after being changed and saved they were shown as broken in some other apps as Restorator) was fixed though.

  12. ^^ You can try to open its EXE or DLL files in Resource Hacker and if you find the image resource, you can replace it with your desired image.
