I fake Windows theme and save on resources by extracting the wallpaper images, sicking them in my huge wallpaper folder, and setting the folder to Shuffle. Then I use an old school XP theme with very few extra animations or transitions enabled.

I tweaked the XP theme with my own mix of colors and fonts (Egglplant and Khaki but better.) I also customize my mouse cursors by mixing the cool ones I find in themes.

I care more about performance than a bunch of "cool" affects I don't even notice after 2 days.
