I definitely will need one of these bootable rescue CDs. But, poor me since my Internet connection is slow. Once I have enough free time to download one of them, I'll download. I just have reinstalled my computer for twice because of blue screen and I lost some my important data on C drive ( I shouldn't put my data there).

I haven't seen a date on here, so don't know if I'm resurrecting the thread, but one consideration with bootable antivirus CDs is the need to be up to date. With some you need to update over an Internet connection (may not work on some laptops with WiFi connections, or anywhere without Internet access), with others you can download updates and install them from a USB device (which sometimes doesn't work). I've used 3 or 4; the Avira Rescue Disk has the advantage that the .ISO image itself is updated several times a day, just download the latest one and no need to update it. Downside: you may not be able to just keep an older .ISO and update it when you need it, have to download the whole 230MB again (not sure).

"Avast" rescue disk is great of all. We can update is by replacing "400.vpx" using "iso magic"

you can add GFI Viipre Rescue to your list. I have used it before and it works well.

The VIPRE Rescue Program is a command-line utility that will scan and clean an infected computer that is so infected that programs cannot be easily run.

The VIPRE Rescue Program is packaged into a self-extracting executable file (.exe) that prompts the user for an "unpack" or installation location, then starts the scanner and performs a deep scan. The user can start the program either by opening it via windows or from the command line.

Virus definitions are included, and the program is self-running once executed. The initial scan, and all subsequent scans, include Rootkit Detection. Four command line options are available, perform a deep scan, perform a quick scan, log the events, and disabling the rootkit.

Detections are consistent with the full VIPRE, and the VIPRE Rescue Program is designed to disinfect a system so infected that a user cannot install VIPRE.

Hi VG,
i was about to dl avg rescue disk, in the system requirements section when u click on the drop down box, so many version available, are they same or should i dl some other version, i need it to remove a trojan "msbackup.exe", will that do the needful.

^^ No. You don't need those software installed in your system.

You should always use the latest version of rescue CD.

Do either the kapersky or BitDefender rescue disks require Kapersky or BitDefender software running on the computers beforehand? I'm guessing not, but just want to make sure!

Also, which ISO file is better on the Kapersky d/l site? The one on the main page or under "Updateable"?

I know Quick Heal doesnt provide any rescue disk. But from antivirus we can create boot cd.
