UPDATE: This tool can also be used to create bootable USB drive or DVD of Windows 8 Developer Preview build.
If you download your Windows 7 copy using Microsoft Store or your MSDN/TechNet/Connect account, it comes in ISO file format which needs to burn to a DVD.
What to do if you don't have a DVD drive? You can create a bootable USB drive to install Windows 7.
Microsoft has released a new utility "Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool" which allows you to create a bootable USB drive to install Windows 7. It also allows you to create bootable DVD.

You can download it using following link:
How to Use:
- After downloading and installing the tool, when you launch it, it'll ask you to select the path where you have stored Windows 7 ISO file. Provide the ISO file path and click on "Next" button.
- Now it'll ask you whether you want to create bootable USB drive or DVD. Click on the desired button.
- If you select "USB Device", it'll ask you to insert the USB device. If your USB device is compatible, it'll be automatically detected by the tool.
- Click on "Begin Copying" button. Now you'll be prompted to format the USB device. Accept the confirmation.
- That's it. The tool will start copying the installation files to USB device.
- At last, it'll show a message that "Bootable USB device created successfully".
System Requirements:
- Windows XP SP2, Windows Vista, or Windows 7 (32-bit or 64-bit)

Here is another way.....
1st Get Daemon Tools......
Any free drive will do....but make sure to clean the drive before doing this though.
Now from XP or vista Load the image into Daemon Tools....make sure to mark the auto start...
Now Install Windows 7 on that empty drive.....and wait for it to finish.
When it are Installed you have an auto boot meny at start up where you pick to either run Win 7
or your old OS.....XP or Vista.....The boot for your older system will show up as Older Microsoft
system something.
Well......I have only tested it from XP so not entirely sure it work from Vista.....But I'm sure it do.
Most of you already probably knew this but if not well I thought I should post this.....
Have a good day'

I downloaded the Windows 7 USB/DVD tool. When I click run it does not allow me to select where I want it installed. It installs it to my C, which is obviously not where I want it installed. I tried downloading to the C and to the external drive and running from each. Each time, it just tries to install it on my C. Please let me know what I am doing wrong. I have Windows 7 32 bit Home Premium edition.
I purchased my Win 7 upgrade from Circuit City. com. Where would I find the iso? I am completely clueless on this. Thanks.
