Ribbon interface helps in accessing frequently used commands and menus quickly and easily. At the same time it also occupies a little bit more space on your computer screen. Although to get the space back, you can minimize the ribbon.
Some people like the ribbon and some don't. If you are a ribbon lover, here is something interesting for you.
"BExplorer" aka "Better Explorer" is a free software for Windows 7 which can be considered as an alternative to default Windows Explorer. It comes with Windows 8 style Ribbon UI.
It also comes with a great feature which is Tab support. You can open several tabs in single Explorer window just like your favorite web browser.
It allows you to minimize ribbon, add commands to Quick Access Toolbar, etc just like Windows 8 Explorer. Currently its under development so you might get bugs while using it.

^^ Currently there is no option given to set it as default because its under testing and a bit slow for use. But future versions will provide this functionality.

Release Notes
This is completely new redesigned version of Better Explorer. It aims to make look and feel to Windows 8 Explorer with some additional features.
It works only on Windows 7 (probably in Vista but not tested)
To make it fully work dont forget to install .Net Framework 4.0 Full and Visual C++ 10.0 redistributable package.

I tested it in Vista. It is unusable in Vista because the navigation window will not display. You also can't navigate to any folders and the drop down menu on the frame does not work. It needs some work to fix these bugs. I would NOT recommend using in Vista.

It's definitely a nice program, but very buggy... froze on me during normal use in 7. I will try it again once it reaches beta.

it has got some bugs as I said on goog+
you can't drag files to copy them, if you do so the file gets stuck on the screen.
not strange because there are 2 explorers if you install this
