Anolis Resourcer: Yet Another Resource Hacking Tool

If you are a regular reader of this site, you must be familiar with Resource Hacker. This tool can be used to modify system files like shell32.dll, explorer.exe, etc which helps in changing the look-n-feel of Windows. You can take a look at our special section which is completely dedicated to Resource Hacker.

Now we are going to share another resource hacking tool which does the same job but provides a few extra features.

"Anolis Resourcer" is a flexible Resource Hacker that exceeds the ResHacker's capabilities in many areas, including support for:

  • x64 executables
  • Vista and Windows 7's MUI files
  • 256x256 PNG icon

  • Thanks for the posting Vishal :D

Just to let everyone know, I've just recently updated the version posted to deviantArt; the earlier version had bad bug in it. You can simply click Check for Updates on the Settings window to get the latest version (build 3429) from Codeplex.

  • Thanks for the info. :)

  • Looking nice. I am trying it. I think its also able to edit compressed exe

  • Is it not work in XP sp2?
    Error
"The application failed to intialize properly"

  • It is not able to deal with compressed exe , says unhandled error occured

  • I guess that we have a competitor to my Vista ResHacker.

  • If you get "The application failed to intialize properly" errors, you need to install the .NET Framework 2.0 or later. It's a 26MB download from Microsoft.com

Right now it doesn't support so-called "packed exe" PE files, I need to do some more research into that area: basically it can get a list of the resources in a packed/compressed EXE, but it can't read the actual resource data. I'll also work on tidying up the error handling in the next release. Remember, it's still a beta (at 0.8.8 right now).
