I started using something called Rizone Take Ownership ages ago, which does the same thing but adds the reg entries and context menu for me, I didn't know if it was worth mentioning as some (like I do) have trouble editing the registry.

Rizonesoft have updated their site and it seems to not available but is available for download from Softpedia still.

Remove the [dot] and replace with a dot, not linked for website security :)

When I do that, it allows me to see who has the permission to modify the file, but does not let me change who is able to. Apparently the only thing that currently has permission to do anything other than read/execute the file is the "Trusted Installer".

Very frustrating indeed. :(

^^ You can try to take the ownership manually, by right-click on the file and select Properties. Go to Security tab and provide yourself full control.

Hello there, I'm having a small issue. Trying to follow your handy tutorial for deleting the abysmal new MS Paint, led me here so I could take ownership of the paint file to rename it.

However, when I use the "take ownership" action, a black box briefly opens up, then closes. I don't know if that is intended or not, but I don't think it successfully took ownership of the program, because it still says I need permission to modify it.

Please help in any way you can, I desperately need the old paint back, as soon as possible.

If you need more details to help diagnose the problem, let me know.

I keep getting a cmd message flash for a brief second saying
ERROR:The current logged on user does not have ownership privileges on the file "C:\windows\System32\mspaint.exe".
My current account is set as admin so i'm kinda confused what to do
