Recently we posted a simple script to toggle “Use Checkbox to select items” option in Windows:

Create Simple Script to Show / Hide Checkbox to Select Items in Windows

And now we’ll tell you how to add an option “Show / Hide Checkbox” in Desktop and Explorer context menu (menu which appears when you right-click) to make the task faster and easier.

HOW-TO:

Simply download following ZIP file, extract it and run the “Install.exe“.

It’ll automatically install the required files and will ask you to add the option into Windows Registry, accept the confirmation by clicking on “Yes” button and then OK.

PS: If you receive any error message while running the installer, first take ownership of following key in Registry Editor:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\shell

Now run the installer again and it’ll work without any problem.

  1. Add “Show / Hide Checkbox” to Select Items Option in Desktop and Explorer Context Menu under Windows Vista and 7 did NOT work at my W.7 Home Premium SP1 machine. Can you please advice me ON HOW to delete the entry at the registry, and therefore remove it from the context menu on the desktop.Thank you VG !!!

  2. ^^ Try to extract the Install.EXE file content using 7-Zip or WinRAR and then copy .VBS file to C: drive and run REG file. It’ll work now.

  3. Thanks for that VG,however i DO NOT want it anymore, and would rather know how to delete the entry to the registry, and therefore remove it from the context menu on the desktop. Thanks.

  4. ^^ No problem. There is an uninstallation registry script available in downloaded ZIP file. Run it and it’ll automatically remove it.

  5. Sorry VG İ misunderstood, did run the uninstall and it fixed it.Thank you as always.
